A proposed route for Sunday is a bit of a joker but you might not find it very funny. Following Dylan's request for some practice for Dromara Hilly, Sean Kelly etc. and Niall saying Dennis feels we should do more hills because of the amount of cakes and cream he is being forced to eat on runs, I suggest the following. Past Spa Lake and up to short 16% hill on top road to Drumkeeragh. Then up to Seeconnell past the microlite air strip. Down to Leitrim road and up the Ribadoo/Ardglass 16% hill back to Seeconnell. Then up to the Legananny Dolmen where there are spectacular views across to the Mournes. Down and up the 16% western approach to Dolly Brae pike and then up the 16% Bannanstown Rd and into Castlewellan for Hillyard coffee. The good thing about this route is that at the end of each hill it is easy just to go straight back to Castlewellan. Having come down from the Dolmen the distance between doing 0 or 1 more hill is the same and it is only about 2 more miles to do 2 more hills. So you can do less hills and we can still all meet up at Hillyard together for coffee. Only about 30 miles Brennans to Hillyard so should be back for coffee at 12 to 12.15 ish. Will not be offended if no one wants to do it as it is a bit lumpy and is also unsuitable if there is rain which is uncertain at present. connect.garmin.com/course/4358389

About 20 at Brennans on a bright sunny day. A couple went off for shorter runs and rest went off to the Hills. Unfortunately we had an early dislocation with the front group, who I think went off to Dromara while the back group comprising 10 went down by Drumkeeragh, See Connell down to Leitrim Road and up Ribadoo/Ardglass , Legananny Dolmen, Lighthouse road down to Dolly Brae Inn. Magnificent views over the Mournes. Denis, Pat and Shane then decided to go back to Hillyard leaving the Magnificent Seven of Dylan, Chris, Brian ,Niall C, Ollie , Sam and myself to go up Dolly Brae and after a debate decided to do number 4 Bannanstown Road although we were beginning to feel the strain. Finished tired but happy at Hillyards. Dylan won King of the Mountains by being first at the top on the principal hills. 4 hills should probably read 44 hills we climbed 4800 feet which in my own personal experience was the highest on club Sunday runs , doing 43 miles Brennans to Brennans. Hopefully will help when tackling Dromara Hilly next week connect.garmin.com/activity/353261536

Good to see Dylan that you are king of the hills. Those olde Tollymore Drins have give you a bit of strength. The spa manager on the boat let me have use of a spin bike Dylan, so I knocked 3 hours out per day, great training😃. See you soon

Great run Max, sorry I missed some it it by following the Chairman! Think we still managed to get enough hills, with our overshoot bringing us to Dromara football field from there it was climb through Finnis, up Windy Gap, down the other side then up the Glenhill road (a good test for anyone) up to the Clangaraghan road, down to Slieve Croob Inn and across for a nice climb on the Ardglass road and back to Leitrim. 42 miles all in but according to the old "crap my ride" only 2,000 ft of climbing. Think we could safely double that going by the Garmin. Really enjoy the run out, thanks.

Apologies for the poor navigation, but by now most have realised that our trailquest teams name of lost and bewildered is not sarcastic but particulary apt. I think I will print out the route next time, not that it will improve my chances, but I can be helped more easily.
as for the route, after about 1000 foot of ascent and 53km with bigfoot and 69k + 4000 foot, I was mighty tired on the return along the dowpatrick road with Bridget.
Really good run, now know kilnhill road well for next weekend. (perhaps thats a bad thing as it comes at mile 93-94 on sportive).
Cheers max on what was a partially good route, i'll have to try it sometime again - although I do know the bannanstown road....

No problem Steve. Actually I think it worked out well. With the difficult terrain, the two groups were able to go at speeds with which they were comfortable and we had some steep descents on fairly tight lanes which were safer with a smaller group.
