Several away this week on Sportives or holiday so not proposing a completely new route. My offering if desired is to go to Castle Espie which we have not visited of late using some of previously used route but also some different new lanes. Listooder Carsonstown Espie Lisbane Darragh Cross. Not too hard 38 miles and about 2700 feet of ascent. Weather looks ok at the moment. connect.garmin.com/course/4572895

18 out today which was a good turnout considering we had members on active duties elsewhere. Out via Listooder where we had a Lost in Translation moment between English to Northern Irish between Gerry and myself leading to Gerry, Denis and Joe going in a different direction. Onwards via Carsonstown along the lanes to Espie where fortunately we met up with the missing three thanks to Denis's built in GPS system. Had coffee in the sunshine outside. Big Fish went at speed back via Killyleagh while Wee Tiddlers went via Darragh Cross at a more comfortable speed. Personally did 39 miles , 2700 feet climb and a very pleasant day in lovely weather. Well done Hurricane Hayley in the National Track Championships and hope the Sean Kelly and Round the Lough boys had a good day out. Am away for next two weekends, so have some good rides out.

Canadian cyclist trying to contact JimmyI met Jimmy on the ferry from Portaferry on Sunday Aug 25 & he was sporting your club jersey. During our short, but scintillating, conversation (involving bikes & snow) he mentioned an organised tour around Ireland for ss 2014. After having cycled across Mayo this week, the pan-Ireland tour of which he spoke has spiked my interest. Jimmy - if you recall our chat started when I asked you where I could hire a bike & you [helpfully] said you had no clue... I foolishly neglected to exchange contact details with you so, if you do recall, please drop me a line at this forum...& if any of you know a club member from Portavogie with blonde hair, blue eyes & tattoo on at least one forearm who was on that ferry, please give him a gentle nudge in my direction! With thanks, Sue

Dear Mr Bigfoot, You are welcome to yank my proverbial chain provided you send me details of the round Ireland charity ride next year : ) I'm not necessarily saying that the gentleman's accent was difficult for the untrained ear but I am quite positive that he eventually introduced himself as "Jimmy".As I recall, he was riding a Specialized; I thought it rude to check out the components but from a cursory glance, they were neither Campag nor Mavic. Elusive he may be, shy he was not; so if he is spied please ask him to contact me. With gracious thanks, Suzanne

Hi Suzie Not sure if you are still following our site but thanks for bringing a smile to our faces. We were a bit put off by your description of Jimmy , regarding the blonde he must have had his helmet pulled down tight and had the sun reflecting off it but I did look into his eyes and yes they are blueish. Anyway now we know you are for real and because Jimmy does not actually use this site , I will try and answer your request regarding a tour. I am not actually aware of a specific tour of all Ireland, so everything I am going to say , you may know already. There is a Malin to Mizen Head tour which takes place place which goes from the southernmost to Northernmost point of Ireland. It is 430 miles over 7 days and is £200 registration and requires £1500 collected/donated for charity but all food , accommodation and backup is provided for free. There is also the Maracycle, a two day event going from Belfast to Dublin and back. A number of private companies offer guided tours usually around the South and West of Ireland eg Cycling Safaris, which can be googled. Cycling Ireland site also gives details of numerous club one day sportives. If you are ever in this area again we would be delighted for you to join us on our routes. Where do you live? I have a son and Canadian daughter in law living in Whitehorse , somewhat doubt that you have met them as Canada is a pretty large place ! Not sure if any of the information is of any use but all the best.

Have had an email conversation with the blue eyed one's friend Suzie, who seems very pleasant and enjoyed cycling here. She very kindly offered to guide us round the Rockies if we ever go there. Sounds a great idea , so all you have to do now is the small matter of saving £2000+ and we can get it organised instead of Mallorca next year !!
