Great turnout on Sunday, with a glorious Winter morning for cycling In total we had 27 cyclist met up Brennan's on Sunday morning, this is really good numbers for this time of year.
Initially the route we had planned was one of Max's new "flattish "routes, but based on the weather we decided to save this for a better day when climate permits.
As I say great turnout: Stephen Heasley, Niall Cochrane, Niall McKeown, Catherine McCoubrey, Michael O'Sullivan, Brian McClean, Dermot Rooney, Adrian Goodman, Marty Cardwell, Marty Mullan, Dessie & Dyaln McGarry, Pat Davey, Joe Hanvey, Max Davis, John O'Connor, Molly-Anne, Robin & Tracey Priestley, Peter Bohill, John Flynn, Gavin McConvey, Shane Savage, John Mills, Colm Turley, Damian Rogan, Joanna Miskelly & Brian.
It was decided being that it was a nice chilly frosty morning that we would head in the direction of Daft Eddie's near White Rock, Killinchy. We split into two groups A & B. The A Group took a longer route via killyleagh which consisted of nine riders, Two Niall's, Stephen, Michael, Brian McClean, Peter, two John's & Colm Turley.
The other riders except Damian Rogan headed towards Daft Eddie's via Loughinisland, Annacloy, Kilmore, Derryboy and then onto Daft Eddie,s.
It was well timed as both groups arrived at Daft Eddie's around the same time and probably around 30 other cyclists. As usual scones and snacks were delicious as always when you go to daft Eddies.
A special well done to new comer John O'Connor who pedaled a mountain bike all day and managed to keep up with us. Thanks to Aidan your friend for the great support and meeting up at Daft Eddie's.
After we were all fed and watered we climbed the small Alps heading out of Daft Eddie's and onwards home.
I heard some reports that some of our cyclists ended up crashing into grass ditches and falling over, but maybe this is just a rumour or a bit of banter. Can anyone confirm?
Well done to some of the new B group members, Catherine had a very strong ride and was banging out all the hills without the help of Niall ;D. Marty Cardwell showed that teconnaught hill is know longer a problem to him wee buns as they would say! We all know that story!
Its good to see Dessie, Marty, Catherine & Joanna sticking at it. I better say that it is also good to see my wife showing good form and now is a dedicated Sunday morning cyclist, but where is that breakfast in bed? Well maybe you can't have both
As usual thanks to Shane, Max, Dylan, Dermot for road marshaling and helping out at junctions. Also thanks to the camera man Gavin McConvey.
We all got home safe and sound with 37 miles on the clock for the B Group and 2500 ft of elevation. Average speed was 13.5 mph.
A very enjoyable day.
A special note to our friend Denis Killen. We are all thinking of you at this time and wishing you a speedy recovery from your illness.
See you all next week.
