“Hi Everybody, Next Sunday will be doing our annual Christmas run to Shimna Valley children’s care home. The Shimna Valley home caters for children with cancer which is a very worthy cause. Every year, the club puts together presents for the children and does a cycle run to the home where the presents are handed over to the children. We would ask all the cycle members to dress up with the Christmas theme in mind. Obviously we have to take safety into consideration and on that basis, outfits need to be suitable to keep you safe whilst cycling. Please find below a route that I propose would be sensible for both the A and B groups. If anybody wanted to do some extra miles to work off the Christmas dinner, they could always go round the coast for a quick 40 mile after we get back to Brennans ;D. “ www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/331056721

One of the largest number of cyclists left Brennans (28) for the "Shimna Valley" Christmas run. There were therefore too many to start naming everyone that cycled. It was one of those cold windy, winter days with progress into the wind on the way to Bryansford very slow. A few of our enthusiastic cyclists who left Brennan's first and seemed to have no problem with the prevailing wind in their faces took the main route to Newcastle rather than the planned route. Max, are you beginning to loose your authority? However we all arrived at Shimna Valley House and after the children were given their boxes of chocolates, shortly before we arrived, we were all treated to tea, coffee and a range of pies, biscuits etc. With the weather being very hasky I think everyone returned to Brennan's by a few different routes rather than going for a longer cycle. Our Paul McKibben Cycle Event raised approx £3,900,a tremendous amount, which was presented to Shimna Valley House. A happy Christmas and New Year and may 2014 be a safe cycling and rewarding year for you all.
