So it wasn't looking good this morning - at 0920 there was only Wee Joe and myself. But we managed to gather another 3 volunteers in the form of Trevor, Chris and Tony. And so the 5 hard-core members of the Lalanterne Rouge Underwater cycle team left Brennan's via new line road and across and up Drumaroad Hill. Wee Joe's suggestion to go via Dree was vetoed and instead stead we went to Clanvaraghan where again Wee Joe took control and headed us up Ratleys Brae, there was some dissent in the ranks but after a small dose of "MTFU" we all climbed the "lump" into the wind and rain. Then down Shanbally Road across to the Finn and Kilmegan - into Magerha and Newcastle. The main Street of Newcastle was brutal with a gale of Southerly wind and it was a head down / arse up slog up to Olive Bizarre for coffee, some Red Bull and sherbet. Here we were lucky enough to be able to watch the "Tour of the Mournes" flying by complete with police outriders, flashing lights and support crew - great spectacle. Im sure I spotted Shane Savage and Ollie in the middle of the pelethon, but hard to be sure at the speed they were going. What only remained was a wind on the back run home, with the sun shining and a steady 25 mph - one of those magic cycling moments that we get every 10 or 12 years. In all a good day despite the crap weather. Sorry Naill but I spent that kit money!!!
