Had hoped to do a really scenic new route via legananny dolmen and out west of Finnis with a few bumps to get the Wicklow contenders in shape, but weather does not look great and it needs dry conditions. So suggesting we may need to keep it short and simple, perhaps Castle Espie via carsonstown road with a section on new lanes unless forecast gets even worse. So blue route suitable for all and about 40 miles brennans to brennans.

Change of plan for Sunday as the weather forecast has improved and no rain predicted until at least 4 pm. So I am suggesting reverting back to the original plan of Clonvaraghan, Slieve Croob Inn, Legananny Dolmen, south of Finnis and west looping back down to Moneyslane and then back along A50 to Hillyard castlewellan. Did route with Tracey, Hayley (Happy 18th Birthday !), and Johnny during the week. Very picturesque, only 40 miles Brennans to Brennans but 3500 to 4000 feet of ascent. Will need to lead it myself as it is a new route and a bit complicated in places. Will go at a steady pace and if we can keep reasonably tight we can try to accommodate all, but due to the amount of climbing I rate it Red to Black so very good for a pre Wicklow workout but not for people looking for an easier ride who could meet us at Hillyard around 11.45 to 12. Quicker boys can split at Moneyslane for a speedy run to Castlewellan. Will do Castle Espie next week when some of the stronger riders will be away in Wicklow. connect.garmin.com/course/6756099

About 26 out at Brennans including new girl Ann who cycled extremely well. A few decided to go around coast but some 20 odd went off up the hills past Seeconnell, Legananny dolmen and out west of Finnis and up Scallion Hill. Along some beautiful roads with great views but lots of ups and downs leading to new nickname of Grand Old Duke of Birmingham to add to the LB. Managed to keep everyone together until near the end when A's got slightly lost and as they were getting tired Olly very kindly took them home the easy route up Dolly Brae Pike while B's came back the tough way on the main road. Coffee in the smartly refurbished Hillyard and back home feeling one deserved a well earned pint of beer or glass of merlot. On my garmin 41 miles 3700 feet of climbing at 14.3 mph
